FUN IS NOT ALL ABOUT WINNING

Hosted by Club Abyss and F1 Motoring

As the sun began to rise on the Eastern horizon, a hot July Sunday morning greeted the members of Evo-NY as they each stepped out their front doors to start up their cars in preparation for the second showing of Evo-NY at a 2005 organized event. From all points in the tri-state area came Evolutions of different makes and colors piloted by people of all different backgrounds with only one thing in mind: To prove once again that Evo-NY is not only the premiere Evo club in the area, but the premiere club, PERIOD.

Long Island crew started the day early

Caravans of Evo’s from East of the Hudson made their way to Jersey, giving sleeping Metrosexuals a wake up call of 93 octane thunder as they passed through Manhattan. It was rumored that even Jimbo heard it thinking someone hotwired his car. Little by little, groups of Evo’s made their way to the Exit 11 rest stop on the New Jersey Turnpike as droves of morning goers, with gaping mouths, just stared at this impressive showing of turbocharged horsepower. Such a large showing it was at the rest stop, it was almost as if it was a pre-show prep rehearsal.

With all the vehicles in attendance, the main group made their way South-bound on Route 35 towards Club Abyss in Sayreville, where the show would be held in the main parking lot. The pure intimidation factor of over twenty in-line Evolutions rumbling their way down the highway made almost all motorists give right of way where it was deserved. Along the side of the road the main group found their South Jersey members awaiting pickup like Navy SEALs in the water awaiting the zodiac speed boats. With total numbers tallying at 27, Evo-NY was set to make a stellar entrance into the Cars @ the Club 3 show.

The sight of 27 Evolutions rolling in together at the show entrance was a thing of beauty to Eddie, the show organizer, and he gave his personal thanks to Evo-NY for helping to support his show as well as bringing it such a WOW factor. Evo-NY may not have come in with glittering paint jobs, Lamborghini doors or fake Gucci fabric wrapping our seats, but the mere fact that a car club with one type of rare car could bring to attendance such a turnout was a head-turner in and of itself. Evo-NY was situated in the middle of the fairgrounds for everyone to see. The clean lines and even cleaner finishes of the cars made even the most hardcore ricers have to appreciate the beauty of the Evo. This was evident from the constant flow of traffic that the Evo-NY section kept attracting.

Setting up..

The only thing that could draw away the attention of the testosterone filled show was probably that bikini contest and the model dunking booth that the F1 crew had setup for the entertainment of the show goers. Rico Baez of RIXplozion.com came through again and brought their bevy of models and cars to keep the day flowing right. Music was provided by Hot 97’s Big Dennis to keep the ears filled with the latest hits. A quick walkthrough of the show was a visual display of vehicle modifications ranging from the simple bolt-on parts to the high end paint jobs and custom molding jobs. There was even a pickup truck with a mini pool in the back. A few Evo-NY members had to be restrained from jumping in the back of that truck. Well, who could blame them? With temperatures soaring into the high double digits, the heat was on. Sun broiled Evo-NY members did all that they could do to find some relief in any shade they could find. The lucky ones caught a bit of a rest under a tree in a folding chair. But the heat of the day was not going to dwindle the spirits of the Evo-NY team. They had come to win and they were in it for the long haul.

When it came down to judging time, there was a nervous hush. Apparently, another Jersey crew had also come with 27 cars representing them and they did not want to share the taste of victory with anyone. Would Evo-NY’s hopes be dashed for a 2 for 2 win? Would Evo-NY have to go home, heads held low in shame from being beat by a team of bondo-glass? Thankfully, the judges had good taste on their side and declared Evo-NY BEST TEAM for the Cars @ the Club show, putting to rest any speculation that the crew could not compete at a ‘flashy bling’ show. Evo-NY had once again taken Best Team accolades and the world was peaceful once more.

HOT HOT HOT day

Personal victories were also claimed by Simon, taking home BEST MITSUBISHI. This class is usually dominated by 1st and 2nd generation DSM’s pretending to be Supras, but Simon managed to shatter all their aspirations with his C-West clad white Evo, proving once again that Evo-NY just can’t be beat on any front. Personal victories were also had by Evo-NY’s sister club, SQC-NY. Monica Silva took home a Judge’s Choice Award for her Subaru.

Finally, the undying support that Z1 Performance guru, Adam, has shown the Evo-NY community was once again on display at this show. Adam, though burned severely from the sun and redder than a Boston lobster, once again took the grueling ride from Long Island into Central Jersey in his show stopping, jaw dropping 350Z to show with the team. Personal thanks go out to Adam and the entire Z1 Performance family for their un-wavering support of Evo-NY on the show circuit.

Big shout out to Daniel, our very own Pirate Papi from Queens, for winning the powdercoating gift certificate raffle.

A big congratulations and thanks are in order to all the members who came out and withered under the hot sun to show the united unbreakable undefeated front of Evo-NY. Each and every member should be proud of the team effort and solidarity that they showed that hot Sunday in July when a group of people from all walks of life and all corners of the tri-state area came together to an event where the odds were against them and took home the show, because I know I am proud of each and every one of you. Let’s keep the dedication and intensity up for the remainder of the 2005 year, each day, every day.
